Review: The Great Shelby Holmes Meets Her Match by Elizabeth Eulberg

The Great Shelby Homes Meets Her Match

The Great Shelby Holmes Meets Her Match is the second book in the series by Elizabeth Eulberg. This book picks up weeks after the first one concludes (you can read my review here). The school year is starting, and John is excited to see what the new school year will bring. He is already making new friends, fitting in just fine, and doing well transitioning to a new school.

Pretty soon, Mr. Crosby’s watch is stolen, and Shelby wants to find out who took it. Mr. Crosby doesn’t want the help, but when has that stopped Shelby Holmes? As I have written before, Eulberg expertly makes even the simplest case, like a stolen watch, complicated and thrilling. And let me tell you, this book has the thrills.

The case leads Shelby and John to go undercover to investigate the headmistress at an elite private school. We soon come across Shelby’s arch enemy: Moira Hardy, the Moriarity character of the series. Moira is a fierce foe, and one who will certainly be in future books. Why is Moira involved in a stolen watch case? There’s something more happening, and Shelby is apt to find out.

I really loved the first book in this series, but this sequel is hands-down amazing. This was a great, thrilling book with all the quirkiness that one would expect from Shelby Holmes. I feel like I learned more about Shelby and John in this book. The friendship between Shelby and John drastically changes in this book after a death defying incident.

I finished this book ready to pick up the next one. And guess what? There are at least two more planned (yay!). I am pumped for the third book, scheduled for release in September (!!!), and I’ll continue to suggest this book to young readers who want to experience a thrilling mystery.
